Empowering the Youth: Iligan City Launches WAKASAN Campaign for National Children’s Month 2025

ILIGAN CELEBRATES NATIONAL CHILDREN’S MONTH WITH STRONG CALL FOR CHILD PROTECTION

Iligan City proudly joins the nationwide observance of the 33rd National Children’s Month under the banner theme “WAKASAN: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!”, spearheaded by the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) and supported by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), DILG, and National Children’s Month Council.

This year’s program lineup focuses on ending Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), addressing mental health, and promoting child-led empowerment.

Key Events in Iligan Include:

  • Opening Salvo (Nov 7): Featuring MotorKID and a child-led workshop on OSAEC awareness at River View, Ubaldo Laya.
  • Serbisyo Caravan para sa Bata (Nov 11-12): Free dental and medical check-ups, birth registration, feeding, and counseling at the City Public Plaza.
  • Palarong Batang Iliganon (Nov 15-16): Traditional Filipino games like takyan, patintero, and luksong tinik to foster camaraderie and teamwork.
  • Dagan para sa Bata (Nov 22): A fun run themed “Youth for Safety” promoting anti-bullying and child protection advocacy.
  • Children’s Congress (Nov 25): A platform for young Iliganons to voice their ideas and participate in policy discussions.
  • Culmination Event (Nov 27): A day of creativity and celebration featuring costume parades, poetry, dance, and poster contests at the Iligan Esplanade.

Through these initiatives, the city reaffirms its commitment to ensuring every child in Iligan enjoys their rights to safety, health, and participation.
