MINDANAO STRENGTHENS TOURISM THROUGH COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT

Tourism officials from Northern Mindanao convened for a strategy-focused summit aimed at elevating the region’s competitive edge and ensuring sustainable, community-centered tourism.

The summit, led by DOT–10, highlighted several priorities:

  • Enhancing product and tour circuit development
  • Strengthening regional branding and digital storytelling
  • Improving tourism standards, regulations, and accreditation
  • Expanding skills development programs for frontline workers

DOT reported notable progress in 2025, including:

  • Over 1.3 million overnight travelers by the third quarter
  • 496 accredited tourism establishments as of November 30
  • 3,450 graduates of the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence program

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, through Undersecretary Maria Rica Bueno, emphasized that Northern Mindanao’s tourism success stems from strong communities and committed local leadership. She also recognized the resilience of tourism workers amid natural disasters and reaffirmed DOT’s support for recovery and workforce welfare.

REGIONAL LEADERS ADVANCE SKILLS, CULTURE, AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

DOT Regional Director Marie Elaine S. Unchuan credited tourism officers for driving the region’s momentum through creativity, coordination, and dedication to local destinations. The summit further outlined ongoing DOT initiatives in:
