Iligan Recognized Nationally for Incentivizing DTI Bagwis Awardees
The City Government of Iligan has gained distinction as the only LGU in the entire Philippines that provides financial incentives to businesses recognized under the DTI Bagwis Program, which honors establishments for fair trade, quality service, and consumer protection.
According to DTI-Lanao del Norte Provincial Director Jane Marie Tabucan, this policy stems from a local ordinance that allows Iligan to grant tax deductions or financial incentives to certified Bagwis awardees. These incentives are implemented under the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (LEDIPO) to encourage more establishments to uphold responsible business practices.
“Naka-ordinance man gud ta ana nga providing incentives to Bagwis Awardees. So ang paghatag og incentives is under the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office,” Tabucan explained.
Iligan’s Business-Friendly Initiative Sets National Example
Through the amendments made by the 18th City Council to Iligan’s Investment Code, the city formally integrated the Bagwis Incentive Program into its local economic development agenda. The measure, championed by Councilor Marlene Young, underscores Iligan’s commitment to supporting local enterprises that comply with consumer laws and maintain excellent service standards.
This initiative not only encourages businesses to aim for DTI Bagwis certification, but also positions Iligan City as a model for LGUs nationwide in rewarding integrity and promoting fair trade practices.
