Mindanao Leads the Launch of the Philippine Wagyu Farmers Association
A significant milestone in the country’s livestock sector emerged in General Santos City as farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs agreed to establish the first Philippine Wagyu Association during the inaugural Wagyu Beef Production Meeting. Participants traveled from provinces such as Ifugao, Mindoro Island, Pangasinan, and Rizal to join the event.
The initiative was organized by The Farm Innovations, Solutions & Technology Company (The FIST Company), which aims to help small farmers acquire Wagyu breeding materials from abroad. The company also provides technical support to ensure proper backyard-level Wagyu production.
Key Highlights of the Wagyu Launch
- National farmer participation, with 236 attendees joining the event and techno-demo tour.
- Hands-on demonstration at Great Arch Farm in Polomolok showcasing pure Wagyu and Wagyu crosses.
- Silage-making presentation using sorghum, including actual cattle feeding as part of the training.
- Technical leadership, headed by a veterinarian with advanced animal genetics training and supported by cattle nutrition expert Arnel Corpuz.
- Formation of a national association to build the Philippine Wagyu Industry through a Genetics Registry Database and future Wagyu standards.
- Strong farmer interest, with widespread support for developing a sustainable and inclusive Wagyu sector.
The move positions Mindanao as a key driver in strengthening the country’s high-value cattle production and expanding opportunities for small-scale farmers.
