A high-level dialogue between the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has opened new pathways for collaboration aimed at strengthening the region’s innovation landscape.
As part of a 3-day Mindanao Investment Mission to Qatar, Secretary Leo Tereso A. Magno met with H.E. Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai to explore targeted opportunities that align with Mindanao’s development priorities.
Key areas discussed include:
- ICT investment prospects and technology-transfer programs
- Joint research and innovation partnerships
- Development of tech talent and digital workforce readiness
- AI literacy, data science training, and advanced digital skilling
- Cross-border startup cooperation for co-developing digital solutions
- Programs supporting MSMEs through tech-enabled tools
This engagement highlighted Mindanao’s readiness for digital transformation while positioning the region within emerging global partnerships.
Strengthening Innovation and Human Capital
Qatar, recognized for advancements in smart cities, cybersecurity, and AI, expressed openness to collaborate with Philippine stakeholders, particularly Mindanao-based institutions and industries. Both parties underscored shared priorities in:
- Enhancing digital inclusion and broadband connectivity
- Expanding opportunities for learners and professionals
- Supporting innovation-driven entrepreneurship
- Broadening access to international markets, partnerships, and investment networks
Secretary Magno also emphasized national directives under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., particularly efforts to accelerate digital workforce development and strengthen AI readiness.
